I just bought an AFM for my 89. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but, if I remember correctly, the 2 numbers for the 89 22RE ended in 55 and 60. This is the one that my truck needed.

If you check your AFM, you should find a number stamped on it and should replace it with the same number. I have been told, (but don't know if it is true or not) that the electronics inside are different between the 2.
89 Ext. Cab, 22re 5 speed, 31"10.50/15"
