X2.  Since you won't be removing the pinion the only thing you have to do is set bearing preload and the backlash where they were before you took it apart.

In regards to offset. You need to make sure that your Detroit is offset for the gear Ratio you are using. There are different part numbers for Detroits depending on the gear ratio.
Offset would be an issue, except,  :headscratch: I believe toyota didn't have a cutoff point for ratio change for most of their gear sets. I've built toy 4.88 and 5.29's using the 4.10 case with no problems or thick gear sets. Other axle makes however seem to be more likely to require a case change in these range of ratios. I don't see why you should have any issues with going to a detroit.  :dunno: unless of course I'm wrong. Check part numbers to verify, I would.
