The most common problem with a hard clutch pedal is a worn, dirty, and gaulded pressure plate pivot ring. This cannot be serviced [it is part of the pressure plate ] and is a big reason to always insist on a new pressure plate.
After thousands of miles in use, the wore lining from the disk travels outward due to the centrifical force and gets stuck in this pivot area in the pressure plate.
On a new cover, this is snooth and lubercated but in time and use, this can be the main problem of a hard pedal.
Remember to always grease the nose cone and the coller of the release bearing as well as the pivot stud of the fork.
