Sorry, but the only way to put a hurting on the oil companies would be to stop needing oil.
It is in high demand and it is a sellers market. If we stopped needing it there would be too much and they could not get rid of it. That would make it a buyers market and the price would drop because they would be fighting to sell it off.
That doesn't mean go out and buy an electric car, you still need oil to produce electricity unless you get it from hydro, nuke, wind or solar.
I don't know how much electricity is generated from crude, but shifting electrical production to nukes from coal would free up an awful lot of coal that could be converted to oil further reducing our dependence on OPEC oil.
