It's funny the similarities with yours and my brother's car tastes. His first car was an mgb, he loved that dang car. He was really heavy into mg's back then, you may wanna bump any questions his way if you come across something you don't know about. His friend took a suzuki sammy, yanked the engine and running gear and made a tube chassis to make an mg midget 4wd.
