The housing is wider, WMS 63", the Birfeilds are alot bigger, bigger rotors, calipars, high pinion third, and Elocked sometimes.
The only draw back is, the steering arms come from under the knuckle, so if you are doing a SAS with leaf springs, it is alittle harder to make the steering work.
And the tie rod is in the back of the axle underneath the high pinion.
im kinda new, whats the differance between the early 80's axle housings compared to the fj80 housing. i.e. will it work as a strait axle swap in a 86 runner
