I just flap disk'd the paint off my housing and welded the gussets on.  Didn't even take a tire off.  I'm not sure why you're talking about disassembling anything.  The gussets go on the outside of the axle housing after all.

Just cut the shock mounts off, grind it smooth get the paint off and weld.
