I am sorry to hear about your problem. How off is the baseplate? I would definitely complain to the company you bought it from, My buddy who had done this same mod, had the same problem as you do. He complained to Hi pro about what was wrong and he will not tell me what was said but the only thing he did tell me was it would be cheaper and easier for him to doctor up the adapter.
 
What he did was, JB welded the old holes then re-align the MAF housing and drilled the proper holes to fit the trucks MAF housing, he then re-used the old Gasket between the stock filter housing and the MAF Housing and used sensor safe gasket material for extra protection he sealed up the tube so well that it is now waterproof.
