say that when you've got a hydro locked engine (or equivelent) and your trying to pull a completely dead truck up over big rocks. Its like a 4000lb anchor. You'll utilize a snatch block and then some off that 8000 lbs, so to say 8000lbs is enough... all depends on your situation.

Yes mile markers are good winchs, I used to own a 8000lb MM. Only thing I didn't care for is that they depend on gear reduction instead of horse power so the winch pulls really well but also pulls REALLY SLOW. They start having problems once you get them in the water as well (or atleast I did)  within the first 2 weeks of using it the controler would intermittantly work/not work..

I may try a tabor next time just for the heck of it, they seem well priced.
