Its pretty easy to bob. If you want to keep your existing tailgate without cutting ugly holes in it, there is some frame work you need to do. Just check out my build, it takes you thru the whole process. I cut 11" off mine and I love it. As for the top, I actually have two, one for the summer, and one for the winter. Im sure you wont regret it.
