Hey CTENG, I just thought of something concerning the 7018 rod. 

I forgot exactly why, but because of the components of the flux, the rods have to be completely dry to work properly.  Try tossing some rod in your oven on low heat for a while, and see how it works then :thumbs: 

My teacher said that when he welds as home, he just throws some rod in on the bottomw when his wife cooks dinner.  :dunno:
