MY 22r makes alot of clater sounds like in the head.
i was told thats common but its loud!!! 
valve adjustment? or is it just how it is?
They all make a bit of noise, but checking the valves is easy and would be cheap insurance.
Hopefully it isn't your timing chain slapping around cuz the guide is gone. My last engine sounded like a diesel because of that.
