What is this hair trap you speak of? Our dog loves swimming, and she is a shedder 
I'm guessing its a fine screen that goes below the filter?
It is a trap that goes in the sweeper hose. It stops the hair with kind of a comb thing before it gets to the filter. easy to take apart and clean. they sell them for stopping leafs too. ask a pool place they will know.
