Ok, looks like there is a snap ring on the end of the inside birf that holds it into the side gear. You need a large pry bar between the birf and the diff. A quick pop should release it from the diff.
There is no need to open the diff.
I"ve been tryin to do that all day. The metal plate between the diff and the axle is unbolted and I've been pryin it like crazy
