I fired up the engine with the valves set by the rebuild shop. After the 30 minute break in, I pulled the valve cover and checked the valves. They were a snug .010" between the adjuster and the valve. I took it for a drive and every few minutes the engine would just lose a lot of power for a couple seconds. The knock sensor was kicking in.
I called Comp Cams and told them about all of the noise and they said it would be okay to set the valves at .008". I set them at a snug .008" which reduced the sound enough so the knock sensor would no longer kick in but it is still noisy.
