Autometer, autogauge (cheaper autometer), VDO or even a cheapy sun performance is better than trusting a generic dash gauge.  I always gow with manual gauges too.  They are a bit slower to react to changes but they are more reliable and trustworthy in my experience.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??
