Nissan Never offered a straight axle here in the states. This all by it's self most likely kept Nissan from being a competitor to Toyota for the 4x4 aftermarket. I have done a lot with Nissan's but it is a lot more work to get it like Toyota came stock. I would do a straight axle swap an use Toy axles because of the parts that are available for them. They will stand up to v6 and some v8 engines and have been said to be as strong as a stock Dana 60 with the rite birfs. I you have a 79 to 86 (720) you can use a Toy front without modification due to the transfercase output being in the middle. If you have a 86 1/2 and newer (D21) you can flip the Toy housing and rotate the end balls to make a driver side third or use the Dana 44.
I would like to see an adapter made that will allow for a Toyota Tcase to be mounted to the Nissan trans so the output will be rite for the Toyota front axle and you could do duals or even triples on a Nissan. That would be cool.
This is an 88 with a flipped Toy axle.
