It sounds like you got the proper updated narrower fork.
It must have two shift shaft holes in it.
One is oversize, and the other fits tight on the shift rod.
It will only go togeather the proper way.
If the fork is installed wrong, it will not engage into the 1/2 rev, shift collar.
Remember to use red loctite on the 10 mm fork bolt threads.
