The scrap yards in my area became recycle yards, before closing up altogether. Might see if the recycling yards in your area resale their scrap.
For the carport, you can usually find metal roofing on Craigslist, may have to tear down an existing building to get it.
For the bbq smoker and smaller projects, target than buying new stock, call your local welding shops, and see if they sell their drop plate, might even get it for free.
