If this was allowed to run it's course it may have petered out by the end of 2020. Maybe even having a lower death count.
Not sure if it wouldn't still be with us, but the death rate would likely be lower. Sweden, who never had any lockdowns nor mask mandates, currently has a death to infections rate over the last 30 days of .14%, the U.S.'s is .735% over the same period, and Sweden's total death rate is 1.1%, whereas ours is 1.5%. When comparing CA to FL, CA's lockdowns, mask mandates, and school closures have made little if any difference, FL's death rate is 1.49% and CA's is 1.39%.
