The OEM converter is stellar compared to the aftermarket ones out there. I think, imho, the aftermarket ones are junk. So even if you remove I’d hang onto it. Those older converters didn’t  have that much precious metal in them like the newer ones, so recyclers don’t give much for them anyway.
