I may have to give the 3.4 some consideration. Im not to hard on my truck either but do like the idea of being over built and knowing it can take more than I give it.  A first gen with a 3.4 has got to a blast to drive. 

It is Haha! Driving up highway 88 I'd have to use 3rd or 4th just to get up the mountain, not to mention the loss of power above 5-6000ft with the Weber. Now I could leave it in 5th all the way up if it weren't for all the sharp corners.
