the idea is that I can bring it in the house and it won't smell like carb cleaner or fuel. I got an instant headache from just pulling that carb and messing around with it.

OK, I never thought of cleaning my carb inside the house... although I've never lived in sub-zero temperatures. 

Geezzzzz... I can't stand the smell of burnt pop-corn in the house, I can't imagine the smell of carb cleaner!
