Don't get too caught up in all that longer tranny bs, it mostly pertains to 4x4 trannies. In my 81, I swapped from the original L series 4 speed to a w50 5 speed from a celica without modifications to the driveline - lengths were the same. Haven't looked into whether or not a w58 is longer, though
