Keep getting miles on that engine, set the valves, tune it and make sure all the smog crap is connected and working properly. EGR's and small vacuum leaks are some things to look at.  Getting a Cat or O2 should be done after more break-in, if needed, get the Cat hot (Fwy not around town) for an extended time.
