I created a cheap heat shield setup for the pipe in front of my cat with 'u' muffler clamps and home exhaust flue sheet metal.

Put muffler clamps on pipe, bracket down.

With extra nuts,  attach sheet metal to muffler clamp.

Wrap sheet metal over pipe, attach other side of sheet metal to other side of muffler clamp.

The Ubolt part of muffler clamp gives you the spacing,  the bracket the attachment.
