i had a 85 2wd 1 ton and it had the 8" ring gear with the 5x4.5 bolt pattern. mine had 4.30 gears in it and would barely do 65. I put a 3.73 3rd out of a first gen 4wd for cheap to help some but she was still always wound up.  pulled hills well that way but never got above 25 MPG where as my 86 2wd 22r 1/2 ton has achieved over 30 MPG on many road trips.
