It depends on what other engine upgrades you have.
The more air you can breathe out (larger exhaust lines) the more air you can inhale (air intake manifold). The more air you can get in the more HP you have the potential to gain, as long as you can (exhaust) get rid of that air efficiently.
I don't think picking a single component has done anyting good (in general).
Why are you asing about exhaust?
