Update on H8pvmnts engine... I had it in a local toyota shop the other day. I havn't been able to get the check engine light to come on, but its having the same problems as before. It runs rich all the time, but above 3xxxrpms it bogs down horribly, or above a certain percent throttle. The mechanic found some little things that he wanted me to fix first, just to eliminate issues before he continues his investigating. He found a large exhuast leak in the collector, where the header pipes all collect into one. Its impossible to weld down there, even with a stick and small rod. I kind of "patched" the whole area between the tubes with some plate and booger welds. Im thinking that because of where this large leak was there could have been a vacuum effect, sucking clean air into the exhuast before the O2 sensors? This would obviously make the computer think it was lean and consequently dump fuel...
The flaw with this theory is that H8pvmnt unplugged both 02 sensors and said it ran the same. So im sure there is more to it. Due to the fact that the problem got worse over time I think it isn't one sensor, or one problem. Could be a few issues compounding together.
I was going to just order a new header for it but I wasn't sure if the LC one or the Rock ripper would fit between the frame and all that. anyone have experience with aftermarket 3rz headers in swaps? i hate trail gear, but Im not a big LC fan either. Add that to the fact that I want to turbo it like Nataions in the near future, and Im kinda torn on ordering one.
