I have done a full harness, tank and steering column out of a 97 2 wheel taco into an 81 4x4. It was a wheeler and didn't really have a dash, but I used the taco cluster. Everything plugged in except for the windshield wipers which I soldered. If you go the full harness route make sure you snag the hazard light button, you are going to need it if you don't want to fool the ecu.
