Those years trans were the weak links even the 84's had issues they just were not made to take the beating we give them. 5th gear is the cause just can not take the load. My 80 was swapped out for an 85 engine and trans, had to move the trans crossmember for that swap too. You have an awesome looking rig, I love the utilitarian bed that is actually useful unlike the truggy style.
