Dave this fits right in a first gen?
It looks to be bigger around but not as thick?

I believe so, I did some research one time, iirc the turbo dual diaphragm brake booster is the one for first gen http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/toyota-truck-4runner/689905-1st-gen-dual-diaphram-booster-bolt.html.also since napa is so close 532460(napa#)

once you get what you need post up a pic of the 4 studs with the spacer on it, I want to see how much thread you need for firewall to pedal assembly clearance
EDIT:
I have a 1 ton 2wd brake booster from my beloved 87 DD with longer studs on it than my other brake boosters.  Fixin to swap it into my 1st gen.  The 1st gen has 1 aluminum spacer and a thin steel spacer after it.  I have about 1 inch of thread coming out with both spacers on it.

Have heard reports that some have had to beat the inner fender some to get the larger booster to clear.

don't know if this helps you at all ....  but I did a 99 4runner booster in my Trekker .. everyone said it couldn't be done !
you need to change the steering shaft , but that was minor  .. 6 years later and it was one of the BEST things I did .. stops on a dime .
