Fordyce 6/13/2014
« on: Jun 16, 2014, 01:36:59 PM »
Just wanted to start a thread to share a couple pics and a video.

Joe (Hogcanyonhopper) and my self decided to do a quick overnight trip up to fordyce to do the upper half of the trail since both of us had never been past the committee entrance.

we met up at a gas station in Grass Valley a little before 9am, gassed up and grabbed some ice and essentials and headed out, hit the Cisco campground around 10 and got ready and headed out.

We headed up the past fordyce lake and reached the committee crossing in about 2 hours and headed to WH3. first i tried the left line, or the old "bypass" and got denied and took a little damage to my passenger fender (i need o build some bumpers).

I then tried the line just to the right of the bypass and made it almost all the way up when i heard a small click and joe said i lost a u joint. turns out i shattered the cross into 3 pieces, and had to winch the last foot or so.

Joe then took the new bypass to the right of the squeeze line and made it look way too easy. soon after two jeeps attempted the same line joe had and spent the better part of a half hour trying to get up before finally making it!

We stopped to have a short lunch break and i replaced the blown out u joint with a spare and we were back on the trail in short order cruising up the trail.

We reached meadow lake around 5-6 and explored the campground and read the historical markers then found our way to the dam and took a couple pictures then headed back down the trail.

we wheeled all the way back down to the committee crossing area and stumbled upon a really nice camp site off the trail with a real nice fire ring and setup camp around 2am.

we woke around 8 and then packed up camp and headed down toward the 2nd water crossing and checked out the "pools" campsite where the rock zombies were camped. sat around and BSed with them for a little while before heading out and found our way back across the committee crossing and bumped into a couple guys i knew from the webilt club and sat and BSed with them for a bit before continuing out. made it out to the trail head just after 2pm and loaded up and headed out.

only casualties were the u joint, a leaky clutch master cylinder and my knee from slipping on a rock, but overall a really fun laid back trip.

I bet Joe will have some to add. thanks for the good companionship man! we will need to do it again soon!

weather was perfect all weekend and it even got a little cold at night which is better than the alternative.

here are some pictures i took and a short video compilation of Joe wheeling i made up(be easy, this is my first go round editing GoPro footage).

Is the new bypass the dirt trail on the far right in the trees?

Not many people know but that is off trail. Good thing you didn't get pics.

I was up watching Tahoe national forest blast part of bypass as to hopefully keep people off it. They informed me bout it. Just trying to get the word out

For sure. Definately pass it on. They can't do much to block it right now

The spot that got your driveline almost put my brothers cj5 over backwards on his lid. Blasting was needed unfortunately.

Left line your friend almost made has gotten the better of me as well. It spun me to my pass side and almost dropped me on my side.

You guys took some amazing pics. I enjoy the top half of trail each year at Sierra trek

yeah that left line was me too.

I usually hear about these work parties before hand. i went out and helped webilt with the off camber a couple summers back, that was fun. my little truck hauled alot of rock that day to fill in that spot.

oh and a turtle point your way for letting us know.

Thank you

Off camber was sketchy before the work and everyone did an awesome job. It's holding up well.

I just joined 4wd club cause I wanted to help more with both rubicon and fordyce. My buddy happened to have an open seat for the blasting of wh3
