I'm so burnt out I think I'm gonna puke.
« on: May 29, 2003, 06:57:22 PM »
Okay y'all
Here's the gig, I had to build my truck (85 runner)in about the space of two weeks, it was the first truck I'd ever built and I had to do the following things to it before I could drive it to school: EVERYTHING! (engine, tranny, dual t-case, suspension, gears, hy-steer, wiring harness swap etc....) I've worked and worked and worked on that thing and it just keeps on giving me fits.  I'm so sick of it I've been pricing stock v6 second gens, I even took it to a shop to have an oil seal replaced.  I have little or no desire to wheel it anymore, heck, I've been so busy fixing other crap that it doesn't even have a front driveshaft. AARGh! SOO, here's the big question: Cut my losses and downsize a bit? Or continue driving it around the streets of santa cruz like the biggest freaking poser on the planet?  I don't have a second car so I'm basically dependent on it for everything.  I can't imagine a better audience to feel my pain.  Pretend you're me, what do you do? :maddest:

dude,  dont blow a gasket :reg:  just take a break,   my suggestion,  find a small car you can get into pretty cheap,  maybe a early celica or mr2   use it as your daily driver  then after a few weeks you'll realize, :smack:what the heck is wrong with me i almost got rid of this awesome truck :smack:

just take your time,  and dont try to make it the most awesome truck in the country over night

Yeah, you guys are right.  I wish that I'd had a choice in how long I had to build it.  It was like, Oh, well, I got the lift, and since I have to do drive shafts I might as well do dual cases, and I might as well do this and that and holy crap I start school in two weeks and all I have is this chassis up on blocks!  The bottom line is that I think you guys are right in that if I take some time away from it (somehow) I'll come to like it again...unless I find a good deal on something better.  In a way its good that is so messed up in that I basically can't get rid of it-It has too many problems!! we'll see, or maybe I'll just ride brainlessfool's skateboard.

I had to do kind of the same thing myself. Built a bad-ass chevy and mainly pulled the whole "well since I have to do this, I might as well do this" thing and killed my-self (and my credit cards). I had a rush on it at the end because my wedding was coming up and I didn't want to be driving dad's truck when I got married. Things didn't work out and I had to (thought I had to) get rid of it and get something that ran. Now that I have gotten another rig, I look back and think of all the time and effort, and cash that was wasted because I basically needed a break for a month or so. If you can wait a little bit, I say give it a break and come back to it, if you don't, you'll wish you had.lost out on all the

Thanks Freds40, that's exactly the kind of story I needed to hear.  I have an old '68 chevy pickup that I think I'm gonna build this summer and use as my tow/daily driver rig so I can get a break from throwing wrenches and cursing fits at my 4runner.

Sounds like a good idea, the chev is easy to work on and simple enough that it doesn't piss you off too much, also when you get back to the 'runner you can go nuts on it now because you don't have to drive it to and from the trails.  :thumb:

I couldn't agree more, now the only problem is fending off the people that want to buy it since I tried to sell it in my fit of anger...the real thing is that it actually has too much stuff wrong with it to get rid of anyway (little stuff mostly) but I'd simply lose so much money, even if I hate it, I'm kind of married to it now. lets hope the same thing doesn't happen with my chevy.

My suggestion with the chevy to avoid further burnout, keep it simple, you need a truck to drive, get it running and reliable and leave it. no sense in making matters worse.

yeah, good call, luckily I'll have lots of time to work on it and less of a work load anyway, and I'll also have another car in case it doesn't work out, I just need to tough it out with the monster truck for a little bit. Thanks for the advice!
