DATDR - N. CA
« on: Nov 20, 2002, 02:51:38 AM »
Day After Turkey Day Run

We got tired of trekking down to Hollister Hills and this year, PMC will be hosting a DATDR at Cow Mtn, the North Bay Area's version of HH.

Nov 29th, two rendezvous spots:
Jack in the Box off Talmage exit, HWY 101, 10 AM
West gate staging area, Cow Mtn, 11 AM

We'll run the perimeter trails and then tackle some tough obstacles (basically screw around) behind red mtn camp.

All are invited!

questions to cruiserfan@att.net

take care and hope to see you there...

** Cow Mtn OHV park is located outside Ukiah, CA.  Take Highway 101 North, about 1 hr past Santa Rosa.

Been there a couple of times, it's a fun place. Where's the obstacles behind Red Mountain camp ? I've seen the little area next to the Mud Pit, that looked pretty burly... dang, can't find my trail map to tell you which trail it's off of......There's also some cool rockcrawling at the north end of the creekbed...
I've got that day off, I'm in if I can talk the wife into it

Hollster has some good stuff. Only real difficult when wet though. Never been to Cow Mountain yet.

going down where ? Cow or Hollister......

Hollister has Tank Trap, and a whole lot of other stuff (I've heard tank trap is brutal..... never been though)

As far as Cow is concerned most the trails are average...but there is some steep dirt stuff that can be fun when it's wet. There are also some short burly spots behind the Red Mountain Camp like trt2 said.  I know of a nice little rocky section that leads to a steep rocky wash next to the mud pit. Had to be winched last time I tried it but now with the lockers it'll be a different story.... We called it the mini Rubicon for lack of a name. (be advised though.... there is another spot that the locals call the mini Rubicon but it's not that tough....) Last time we were there we also noticed a big pile of rocks, kinda like they were getting ready to build up a trail.

Sorry, no pics.... just video from our last outing. Here's a couple random pics though....

as you can see all manner of rigs can share the trail. They're also rated like ski trails (green, blue, black) the fun trails are the black ones...
