Memorial Day
« on: Apr 29, 2003, 06:09:41 PM »
You know Lake Tahoe just hit a new record of 110 inches of snow or something crazy like that two weekends ago... When does rubi usually open up?

You might want to think about an alternative on Memorial Day. There will be alot of people there already and this year is crucial as we are under the spotlight by Big Brother. If there is snow it could be a bad situation.

No, there will not be a line of enviromentalists watching you. BUT there will be a pile of snow. It is adviseable for you to wait until the snow melts. In the spring, the trail is more difficult. With this being your first time, it will be more difficult for you. I am not trying to dissuade you from doing the rubicon Trail, but put it off. Go with someone that has been there before and you will enjoy it as well as I have for the last 12 years.

You just do not get it  :shake: :shake: :shake:

The Little sluice is 5 miles into the trail :slap:

Get a map and read it. :~~: :~~:

Do some research to find out what you are getting into!

I'm just kidding I appriciate the concern but I'm willing to let this be learning experince.

dude ... you JUST don't get it do you??? i don't care how 'hardcore' you are. I don't CARE if you break your :pokinit: or not. What I DO care about is the RUBICON TRAIL.

Do you care if this is the LAST year that the trail would be open ... because YOU chose to have the balls to go tear it up instead of waiting a few weeks for it to dry out.  Well,  your first time ... might be ALL of our LAST!!!! Thank you. It is SOOOO greatly appreciated.

Do you realize how many people have put in LONG HARD hours helping to preserve the RUBICON TRAIL and saving it from being closed PERMANTELY???

The ONLY way I would suggest ANYONE going into the con ... is on foot and even that will have it's impacts, but not NEARLY as much as a 3000-6000 lb vehicle.

Here are some links that will HOPEFULLY help you see the bigger picture:

I had a chance to do some snow wheling with Cruzzila last winter. It was alot of fun but not what I expected. I was thinking it was like sand wheeling. Finess on the throtle, and keep momentum up a bit.  But it's more like 250 to 1  crawl ratio, and try to idle. Touch the gas and it sank.  It was a great experiance, and I was lovin every minute of it.  But my Girlfriend started to loose interest after an hour, and moving 1/8 mile. So you also got to think of people with you if you decide to snow wheel.

She liked Uncle Tom's and we put our dollars up.

Wrist is almost healed, not I got to get wrenching on my truck. I may figure out how to get there for MCR and Rubithon yet. Sure wish the economy would pickup!

I love the Rubicon, make sure its still there when I can get back!

The consensus is to stay off the Tahoe side until it all melts. That should be mid June. It will be wet for another 2 weeks after that. The Loon or W end is fairly dry now and will be dusty in 2 weeks.
