me and the 05 tacoma (callin on bigmike)
« on: Sep 24, 2005, 10:48:43 PM »
Hey all.
i joined a while back, even before I bought my tacoma.
I hope BigMike sees this post, as I have lost his phone number.

I used to be an mr2 nut (like mike) and have now moved onto 4x4s. What a change.
It's a 2005 4 cylinder 2.7 liter 5 speed 4x4 regular cab.

photo of me, and photos of the truck

:welcome: Nice truck, you'll have to keep us inforned on how the new wider Taco's work offroad, there are people around that say the new Taco's suck, too wide. I'm thinking they are no wider than a TJ.

it's been off-road already and i see no problem in the 4 inches wider :P
most of the older tacos w/ the bigger off-road wheels that stick out i'm willing to bet are much wider than the stock 05.
turns out the 05 is also longer. that was the reason why i got the regular cab. eventually it will turn into a purely off-road truck, but 1st i have to pay it off.
the way i see it, it's fairly stable, but then I haven't pushed it much either. need to get me one of those altimeters and see if mike would show me some of the roads up around shaver lake and the area ;)

WOWWWWWWWWWWWWW LYU!!!!!!!! HOWS IT GOING MAN!!

Dude, I still have your phone number, I'll give ya a call later tonight!

Wow, so does your mother still have her MR2 at least? Last I heard you bought a Mk2 and were using it as a daily driver.
I heard that your black 2 got wrecked, but I havn't heard of much since.

Thats a SA-WEET Truck man!! Hey, since it's a 2005, I have never ever seen the new VVT-i version of the 2.7 3RZ-FE engine. So I was wondering if you could take some nice pictures of the engine and post them up!

Take the kind of pictures that I wanna see, you know how I like 'em, good close ups and from different angles.
Specifically, I am courious what the front of the valve cover looks like! Thanks man! :gap:

Well, we've gotta hook up again sometime. My friend Brian moved to S.F. so he drives past your area almost every weekend. I am supposed to head back up to Clear Lake sometime this fall, so I'll have to stop by your house again!

Anyways, I'll give ya a call later, good to see ya man!! :best:

mikey mikey
i'm still recovering from the black mr2 wreck. it was done, and i had it posted for sale, when this guy rear ended me and put in in the emergency at the local hospital for a night.
we do not have any mr2s left, all sold and gone. mom drives an 05 corolla (also silver) and about 2 months ago I got this 05 4x4 tacoma.
It was originally delivered from factory in visalia, then it went to reno, and I had them bring it here so I can buy it.
It was the only regular cab 2.7 4x4 available to purchase in north california. I have seen 2 others like it, but no more. It was a limited production since nobody rear wants a regular cab 4x4 w/ a 4 cyl, just the hardcore off roaders  :eyebrow:
i'm moving to another apartment today, tomorrow and friday, in the same city here, and signed a 6 month lease. Around new years I plan on a move to fresno, if I can line up a job for myself that pays at least the same amount that I make now.
It's been 2.5 months since the car accident and my back is not well. I'm doing therapy, and i've got balance issues w/ my inner ear, which will not go away anytime soon.
Other than all that, life is peachy. Lots of beautiful women in all three classes that i'm taking this fall, and i'm looking forward to go back to work, so i can pull myself out if the debt this car accident created.

i'll shoot photos for you over the weekend. i know the requirements.
email me at lefterov@sbcglobal.net so i can get a reply address for the photos.

I wanted to make a trip to Fresno this weekend, but due to the move, I may not be able to come. Humberto promised me 2 40 giig hard drives so I need to pick those up and start making arrangements for a job in Fresno. If not this weekend, I will come down within the next 1 month for sure.

WOW, I want that motor sooooooo bad!!!!! :_order:

I am not sure when I'm going to finish my homework tonight, so I'll probably end up calling you tomorrow sometime.

I do remember that your mother has the Corolla, but I thought you kept the MR2 that was under that nice MR2 Car cover, the last time I was at your place. That was a while ago, eh? I am still dating that same beautiful girl who visited your place with me, and she is in Tokyo right now for a year, so I'm going to go visit her in December this year. I can't wait at all --- it's killing me!

Yup, more pictures would be sweet, I'll give you a call tomorrow and we'll talk some more. Toyota has changed more than I thought with the 4th gen 3RZ. Man that's one KILLER Engine, you don't even know what you've got dude.

That motor makes the 22R-TE and the 3VZ-FE look like a 3A-F Carburated engine hahahahaha

the 2005+ seems to have a "traditional ladder frame, boxed in the front and reinforced C-channel behind"
got the info off an article. i suppose it's not fully boxed frame.
i'm a newbie when it comes to trucks.

I opted in for a truck because:
1. mom kept whinin as to why i load stuff in the back of her 05 corolla.
2. the tacoma is now slightly wider and not really a small truck anymore
3. even w/ the 4 wheel drive, it still gives me the best gas mileage a new truck can offer with plenty of power to get around
4. after several accidents in mr2s i felt the need to go bigger and higher, not necessarily more safe.

It set me back a whole lot @ $421.69  :smack: a month for 66 months. 7 year or 100,000 bumper to bumper warranty w/ no co-pay on any repair  :clap2:

There's a big chance this truck will stay with me even after it's paid off (same goes for the 05 corolla i bought for my mom) and i'll have to get me a used/abused mr2 spyder cuz i'll never be able to put 2 seaters  :driving:  aside and just drive trucks  :burnout: .
