Research - S/C
« on: Oct 06, 2002, 07:30:18 AM »
I've heard that Camden and B&M used to make S/C's for the 22R Are there any companies that still do as a production? Camden wants 2K  and would take them 3-4 weeks since they no-longer produce them day to day.... :~~:

Hey Doc,

I was going to help out some friends with their 22RE.
They wanted me to assist them in a custom SC setup.

Why dont we try that first? I've already got an imported JDM SC14 1400cc displacement Supercharger for our enjoyment.
Either I sell it to you and help you with it, or its going on Ebay in a couple of days (along with someother stuff I have been planning to get rid of).

BTW, Did this thread die? Let me know-

Check out mr4x42u's Sand Rail guys!

Good torque on the 3TC? What's the displacement? What's it like to build one? Easy to work on? :joke:

:bowdown:Love the 3tc!   Super easy to work on good torque hoever I am truning 31in paddle so the long climbs have to shift down to second. If I had gone down just one more size in ring and pinion thet most likly would have taken care of that..Good hp too..I like the 3tc a bit better then the 22r just to to higher rpms it pulls over the 22r.Then again that could just be the head work. Its pretty much stock.10 over pistons, portwork, stainless valves, portmatched intake, head, and exhaust.Exhaust is hommade with a super trap. The 50 shot nos is a big help with the bigger pinto motors but with the cc displacement difference she will still blow 4 out of 5 out of the water..This winter is a s/c upgrade or turbo.I found an outfit that makes fi intakes and adj cam gears, even roller rockers so more work yet to come.I will get a pic of the motor and get it on here.I have run it with some pretty fast rails.everything from pinto, subraru and v-6,buick and vortec. The look on there eyes while standing on the nos button!   :ack:Not too bad from a 1800..they also made a 2tc wich is basicly a 1600..

The only bummer with LCE and TRD S/Cs is you cant run any physical intercooler and, overlooking the physical limitations of the engine itself, are thus limited to certain boost levels. Water Injection's perfect, but no ones going to carry a 200 gallon water resivor for that 80 mile mountain pass.

yea, well the price is a bit out of hand also..Thats one reason I was thinking of turbo with intercooler.I  cna run a fat turbo system for about 800 installed with wastgate and intercooler and that would be about 10punds of boot,,maybe even more but I would have to lower my compression a bit to run more..

When your at the dunes, do you get alot of room to gain speed before jumping/climbing and or do you sometimes have to start/stop on the sides of hills or let up on the throttle during power?

If you answered yes to my second or third question, then you should go SC because the Boost is always on even if you are feathering the throttle, backed off the throttle, decelerating and then stabbing it, or have no space to rev it while launching in gear to about 3000-4000 RPM (for the same amount of useable boost on a Turbo as a SC would develop from 2000 standing still).

What you would use is a small turbo with an external waste gate, one that mounts seperatly on your exhaust system. This is eaiser to tune and allows the Turbo to keep spooling.

Also, to decrease lag, dont use a Blow Off Valve. Instead use a Air BlowBy valve. Instead of blowing off the air into the atsmophere, it would recycle the wasted boost back into the intake stream and give the Turbo itself a surge of air while you shift which helps to keep it going. But you wont get the hear the nice "ppssshhhwww" noise at every throttle release. :( But youre Turbo will be more responsive :)

BigMike
