I bought a 1986 4Runner that was already lifted and the rear is not setup properly. My question is where should the rear spring hanger be welded so the shackle angle is correct because it is not right at all.

The static position should be about the angle of the arrow, so when the wheel moves up into the wheel, well the shackle moves up towards the frame, and when the wheel travels down, the shackle ends up the the position it is in now. It looks like the previous owner used the wrong springs.

I think the previous owner wanted to get it as high as possible. The spring hanger was removed and welded on the 1” square piece above it. Supposed to be 5.5” lift springs front and rear.

Missed that the first time, did he do the same to the front, or just the rear?

Did the previous owner say he put 64" Chevy springs on it, the spring hanger should be forward of the body mount.

If welds are good on the 1" tube section, and the springs are longer, you could get a new main leaf made that is the additional length needed to allow the spring eye to move backwards and up when the axle move upwards.

I would get rid of the spacer and move the shackle hanger forward as needed to correct the angle. I think the rear shackles on all my toys are kicked back roughly 35 degrees from vertical, like Snowtoy's pic. Those aren't chevy's, they look like a TG or Allpro style spring to me. I'm guessing the PO just moved the hanger to far back when installing the longer springs. I want to see the rest of the truck.

I think it is a TG 5.5. Here is the rest of the truck when I picked it up Saturday.

That thing is set up for swamp boggin', way too high and that rear bushing is shot in the spring eye, look at how the bolt is not centered in the eye. Lose the spacer, move the hanger forward and follow the above suggestions for placement, you'll be a lot happier and safer. Looks like nice "bones" though.

Oh I know it is way too high and there is issues with the bushings. Ordered new shackle hangers, all new bushings for all the springs, and a long rounded U-bolt for front U-bolt flip kit that was already installed. Thanks for the help everyone.

Getting rid of the body lift will drop it another 3".
