Matsuba ujoint help
« on: Apr 25, 2017, 08:22:19 PM »
Howdy.  New to the site and brand new to owning an '81 Toyota SR5.  I'm replacing my ujoints as the originals from '81 are still on it.  Anyways I ordered the Matsuba's from Marlin and was in the process of installing them when I discovered the grease fittings don't clear my driveshaft yokes.  The originals have a pressed in flat grease fitting, the new ones of course have the domed screw in fitting.

Seems like a lot of people run these ujoints, am I doing something wrong that I don't see.  Or did something get changed along the way that makes these not fit my driveline?

thanks

The newer style flanges/slip yoke/tube yoke have more clearance which allows more angle. The matsuba 230 fits those As long as it is not a cv joint.

I just ran into the same problem when changing the spider joints on my 1981 4X4. I ordered the Matsuba spiders from LowRange Off-road. The Matsuba will fit in front yoke but not the rear.  My only solution was to buy a oem spider from Toyota for $62.
