Nate are You sure it’s a transmission concern?I reread the description You wrote and there’s not really enough information to eliminate other possibilities.Could it be the rear diff or t-case?
Noise was definitely coming from the transmission. I started doubting it too this morning but I know the noise was a bearing and was coming from the gearbox. It wasn’t doing it in neutral or on coasting so I’m pretty sure it wasn’t the diff. Also the noise was coming from too far forward to be the t-case. I appreciate your insights though.
I believe it’s the countershaft bearing at the intermediate plate. I just can’t see it until it’s completly taken apart.
So like I said. “It’s probably the transfer case or the dif”. Zippo got the transmission torn apart and saw nothing wrong with it. So it’s getting an unnecessary rebuild. At least it won’t be a source of concern and will be a great transmission for whoever buys it after it gets pulled out for the eventual motor swap.
You just have to think of the area under the truck as a shelter.
Had a good break in the weather today and pulled the diff.upon initial inspection it looks fine. No odd scoring on the tooth faces and the bearings feel smooth. wind storm coming tomorrow so I'll pull the T-case apart then so I can be under the shelter of my shed roof.
Don't forget to spin those axle bearings to see if the noise is coming from there.
That’s exactly what zippo and I are thinking.
Yikes a lot of unnecessary work for it to be a wheel bearing. Oh well at least it's squared away
I must have missed it. I don’t think they have found it yet.
Maybe some kind of varmint made a nest in your front end. Common problem here.
