The only complaint I really had was the throttle cable that was used seems like it was binding. that or the carbon buildup on the back of the throttle body is making the plate stick shut. It has a lot more power than the last 83 I worked on, thats for sure.

All I can say to anyone who is removing a carburetor 20/22r in the plan for fuel injection is this. Do not waste your time with a 22re. They are great engines, not knocking them for their reliability. The 3rz is hands down the best thing I have done to a 1st gen. Running 5th gear on interstate at 70 you can easily roll into it and pickup speed to pass someone. It's more fuel efficient as well. I am very grateful for the 3rz swap thread that big mike and many others contributed to. It basically covers everything except wiring and that would be a whole 48 page thread in its on. If you can get on line and find a fsm for both your donor vehicle and your current vehicle your good. It takes some patience (something I am not blessed with) but if you can solder you can do it.

After hunting all over the place for a 3rd gen top plate I gave up. I got to thinking about this strange looking compressor that was on an 87 carburetor 2wd parts truck I had. So I went up there this evening and grabbed it. Also on this 83 it had a little 90° 3/16" line that is discontinued at the dealer ship so robbed one off the parts truck that was quite a bit longer. Had to make some extra bends but it fit and it's on. The top plate bolted onto the taco compressor. The low side line hooked to the firewall just fine. The other would connect to the dryer if it were a few inches shorter but just put a lot of bind on it the way it is so it will get shortened and a new end crimped on tomorrow.
First, this is a 1993 22re pickups top plate, the top plate faces forward. It would work great as well as lines if I could have found one...

This is what I ended up having to use of the 87.

Now the ac is kicking right along. Looking for a pair if 8" fans to run on the condenser. At idle the 134 builds a little too much head pressure and can't stay cool. Also have to do some ring about exhaust. It is way too loud.

Today it finally got shocks. Didn't have the funds for hoops, and had a set of f250 towers in the shed so just used them. Also hit the u pull it looking for fans. That was a fail, but did get a pair of jl audio 6.5s and a pair of jl 5.25s for $10.

Thanks steve. My main reason for not going all out on high dollar parts is because it is a daily driver that will see little offroad use. It pulls the little boat and takes me where I need to go. Already have 2 trail rigs(80 pickup, 85 4runner) so not much reason in making this one another chewed piece of bubble gum lol.

This morning back to muffler shop to install a 25" resonator before the muffler. It helped quite a bit. Still has a littlw tone to it, but it got rid of the raspy popping it had.

Made some 3/16 gussets for the cross member mounts.

Painted and mounted the ecm.

I'll take pictures later when I mount the fans. During lunch I cut the grill to clear the fans going on the condenser, removed the "steering cooler" line and routed it to transmission cooler section of the radiator. Held about another quart and a half of fluid so that should be good.

8" fans. They are thicker than the advertised size so more grill trimming is in order.

Cleaned up and old long field shift knob might put it on when the axles gets in there.

This evening put the two fans on a 30 amp relay fed by the ac idle up circuit. Also put a toggle switch on the signal wire between the relays. Not only do fans only come on with the ac compressor, but I can hit the switch and cut the fans off while cruising so they aren't always turning and adding more drag to the alternator. I let it idle for almost an hour on max ac and the high side line feeding the dryer from the bottom of the condenser never got too hot to hold your hand on so the fans appear to be doing their job.

Ran across this boat last night in Craigslist. Just had to get it to complete the early 80s theme.

After putting almost 3,000 miles on in. I do not in any way regret the swap. Fuel mileage is not what I was expecting (16-17) I believe that is due to the wheel and tire choice. The 4.56 is staying need to round up a front diff with 4.56 so lockers can get ordered. Then build a front shaft, install the longs and what not. Hitting a brick wall with the bumper mounting plans. Got a friend at work that's going to help with the writers block I have going on. Maybe we can figure something out once we are both looking at it with the bumper in front of it.

Yesterday was an epic fail. Went to Barry's got a steering box from a 93 4runner, a dual diaphragm brake booster from a 90 model 2wd v6 auto truck, and the seats from a 87 accord. Got home and the booster won't clear the 3rz intake so I ordered one for an 87 turbo pickup (dual diaphragm but still small) tried the steering box swap (mine is leaking) the 86 box that I have is shorter than the 3rd gen box, so fail on that as well. Moved on to seats. Nowhere near a bolt in and roll out deal. Faught it for over an hour before I got pissed and went inside to eat. Maybe this evening I can build some plates to make the seats go in.
Current seats.

Plan to install

That 3rd gen booster would never have fit anyway because our first gen cabs have less vertical distance between our brake booster and steering shaft at the firewall and the two will grossly interfere. I have a 22R 2nd gen booster that I'm planning to install but haven't had time to do it yet. I am told that even with the smaller 2nd gen boosters that we will have to slightly hammer and clearance the booster for our steering shaft / even the 2nd gen booster is a tight fit.

I ordered one for an 87 turbo pickup
Wait, what do you mean you "ordered one"? Where is this mythical store that sells turbo boosters you speak of? :hyper: This was my original plan but couldn't find one.

Thanks
Mike

Remember my cab is 2wd, the steering shaft is a little different as well as my factory booster. It never had a spacer plate like the 4wd do.
Ordered it from oreillys. Dual diaphragm brake booster for 87 turbo truck  (2wd and 4wd same part number) pt#  53-2460

If your still running a 22r you'll be golden. If you've swapped a 3rz you will have to flatten the inside corner out a bit. Also remove the upper intake to get the thing in. But I will certainly say it is worth it. Pedal is super soft and easy. I still have a 7/8 bore Mc at this time I can only imagine what it will do with a 1.

I need to do a little more clearance work but she's in there. Remember I have a 2wd steering shaft so I can't promise the results with a 4wd shaft.
