Just read your thread.  Great job on the install.

I just purchased a 1kz-te 88 4runner. Had the same running hot issues I purchased a 3 core alum radiator from Malaysia, had to cut and re weld the lower output, and the fan shroud inserts were also in the wrong hole.  It also hit the hood.  I re drilled the mounting bracket to lower the radiator.

When I got the truck it would not go over 65 mph on flat ground without it going into the red zone…PO told me he had the same issue but it ran fine up to 65…I checked the fan clutch as I had to refill my prior land cruiser but it was fine.  Put the new radiator in and I can run up a 6% grade with ac on in 100 deg heat and the temp never goes past ½ mark now, and it will run 75 to 80 in the flats now.

Where did you source your engine FSM?

And any ideas for small parts?, I need a turbo drain gasket where it goes into the block.

luckily I did not hurt the head gasket on mine.  Did you get your head on ebay?

I sure do hope you and your truck make it next year, I just love a well built diesel.I wanna see this truck in person

I am hoping to get it there next year for MCR. I was glad that Zippo was kind enough to ferry me down this year. :D

I have also been able to drive up grades without any overtemp problem now that I have the Aluminum 3 core radiator. I forget where I got the FSM but I will send you a copy.
For small part some are available through Roughtrax. That is where I got my head. really top quality stuff. for everything else not available from Roughtrax go to Japan4x4.com email Dave Steadman stedman@japan4x4.com you will need to set up a Paypal account if you don't already have one. look up the part numbers you need on ToyoDIY.com then e-mail him requesting prices for those part numbers. all prices will be in Yen. Right now $1.00 approximately equals 120¥. Then pay for them via Paypal he will send you a request for futher funds for shipping once he has them packaged up and weighed. Here in Seattle it only takes about a week to get my parts.

Thanks !  and for the PM.  I bought the FSM but it came in a 5x8 book..I was expecting a full size manual.  It helps to print out the pages I need though .

No. I suspect I overheated it enough to crack it. It is running like a real dog due to low compression.  :smack:

(This is a personal note to myself) 4.56 gears will work nicely with 35"-37" tires.

G'Day  just some info on cooling and overheating issues with the 1KZ-TE engine here in Australia  cracked heads on this engine is a known to happen due to the position of the thermostat it mostly happens when towing up hills so there are two different heads out there, vehicles released in Australia have what is known as a " long valve head " where as imports such a Surfs  have " short valve head" the long valve heads still crack , I personally know a bloke who had a 1KZ -TE Prado and overheated the engine twice in 12 months towing a trailer up hill and cracked two heads, firstly change the thermostat to a 70 degree item so it opens sooner  make sure the cooling system is up to scratch , use the fan shroud , and fit a external oil cooler
own a 1989  LN106r diesel with a 1KZ-T 3 litre turbo diesel  bolted to a imported R151F gearbox with snorkel Rancho springs & shocks & Detroit lockers F & R & 11x 32  cooper sst ultimate dual transfer cases 130 litre fuel tank   full floating disc brake rear end

Got some work done on her today. Ready to rip my babies heart right out of her chest. Hopefully I'll have time next weekend.

One more order of parts and then I think I will have everything I need. Apparently Milner off-road no longer ships to the US. Fortunately littlesteve has agreed to forward it for me.

Yes he is graciously letting me drive his baby while I fix mine. I didn't want to mention it. He might get emotional.

I run it on B100 all the time. I would eventually like to build a second fuel tank with a heat exchanger in it so I could run waste veggie oil.

So its like a w59 bellhousing just not crooked?

I'm not familiar with the w59 bell housing, but this is for an R-series transmission

I did it for 3 years in my 12v. It's Alot of work. When fuel is as cheap as it is now it's not really worth messing with in my opinion.

Yeah, but fuel will be expensive again as soon as the Saudis have successfully ran our national oil producers out of buisness.

Fuel being as expensive here as it is... no one bothers with veg oil anymore...

so I could run waste veggie oil.

you realize the filter heads out of the 2L UK trucks have a heating element in them? I happen to have two..... you want one?

I didn't know that. I always wondered because my engine fuse box has a circuit labeled fuel heater. I definitely take one!! My filter primer is kaput anyways.
