Thats a big list. Could work on a budget, just time. I love first gen four runners. Not the most important thing on your list, but #17, the rear window... 12v guy makes a kit to fix that. I messed with my rear window in my 87 for hours, then finally ordered the kit. Works great.
Mine is done and on ebay
Just being a wise ass, I am selling my 85 4runner which is already built. Good luck with yours.
looks like a good start man! yeah i think a lot of us on here have that syndrome where we cant stay away from getting toyotas even though we say we wont.
Really? I couldnt imagine it being to much to figure out. I know im getting rid of the toyota switch ( I dont have one anyways ) because they are netorious for going out. I have watched my Best Friend jump his switch with a test light or wire for 3 years now! Window motor power, ground, and linkage. What more possibly could It be?And yeah its a good size list. Thats just off of the top of my head. Im gonna full resto this runner. Its my goal. Then again ill probably end up rollin' it and going full tube body. You never know! I did pick up some NICE aluminum Alcoa Rims today though. 8 lug ( 8x6.5 ) 16.5x10 for $35!!! Ill go run and snag some pictures real quick. Who is 12v Guy? A member?
There are a few safeties that can go out. The tailgate has to be latched on both sides, there is a ground on the rear key, there are relays in the driver side down panels by the roll cage... Mine worked for a while with the grounding trick, but finally stopped. The switch works by grounding it, not be sending power to it, so a normal switch wont really work. 12vguy.com Its a buisness.
Looks like a perfect family hauler to me...
Girlfriend ALWAYS overpacking when we go camping.
Add rear leaves...
THIS! lol i always have one small bag, and a big bin of mostly spare parts and the tool box, then rest of the truck is full of god knows what but always seems like there is never enough room.
Good show!! Just remember though, a girl that actually LIKES camping is great in itself. But the bin idea is spot on. Haha
What do you mean?Spare Parts and Truck tools Never leave my truck, Always seem to brake down when Im not wheeling so it became a force of habit!I got that Idea from a friend then I decided to make the rule. It works. And Yes, having the support and passion from your significant other is such a blessing. Plus, no nagging when Im in the garage or for buying parts because I stay out of her purchasing habits so she stays out of mine! Its a good thing! Im just hoping my daughter will love it just as much as we do. But honestly? Whether im out wheelin or not what kid doesnt like camping?
Well see, with her only being 3 months and our first child we are way too overprotective!
I mean if you tend to carry too much stuff camping you can add more spring rate to the back. We use ours for the same thing and tend to carry a huge load, probably like 700-800lbs on a trip with the kids and coolers. When I ran a pickup we used like 4 leaves. I ended up with like 8-9 leaves on my 63" chevy rears for the 4runner. It looks like a 1 ton leaf pack! Oddly enough they still ride nice and flex well even unloaded. I guess that's the long springs for you.If it handles like a pig don't be afraid of more leaves...
Good for you bro. It good to see someone you takes their parenting responsibly .
All I know is what it took for me. I ran a '94 pickup with typical tool load no problem with 4 leaves and it was great. When I put on the 4runner body it was completely inadequate. I added a couple leaves and it was still terrible. Sagged and swayed, handled like a pig on the road with the top on and even worse with the camping gear. I just kept adding thin leaves until it felt right. I ended up with 8 drivers side and 9 passenger. It still rides great and flexes well and now it handles good too. You just have to tune until it's right. I'm sure results vary so you'll have to just see what works for you. Different springs, bumpers, winches, how much the wife packs on a camping trip... how much beer you expect to carry, spare parts, all these things come into play . I guess I'm just encouraging you not to be afraid to mix and match with leaf springs if you need to. Mine still rides nice even with those huge leaf packs. You might not need that many.I like to build for the load I expect to haul when wheeling/road tripping.
Happy birthday by the way!
X2!hope u get some parts as gifts to finish this beast!
