Thought some of you here would like to see what my great grandfather built before you could easily buy what you needed in a store.

Gotta admire the creativity of people. If you need it and can't buy it.... build it!!

Depending on his location, I'd say that was what made America great...inventiveness, Yankee Ingenuity.
The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first.

I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.

No plans at the moment to use it, everything on the press still functions, the electric motor is likely too old to use.  My immediate plans are to clean off the dust and build a stand for it, maybe turn it into a piece of "shop art".

Yep, unfortunately so much of those types of problem solving skills/creativity that was needed 100yrs ago just to be a functioning adult has gone the way of the dodo for most in western societies.

People have been taught to point the finger and blame something for not working rather than looking for a solution.  Doesn't help that everything is so over-regulated that the safety police seem to follow you everywhere you go.

You can go through life being scared of the possible, or you can have a little fun and tease the inevitable.

Give a man venison, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to hunt Blacktail, he'll be frustrated for life!

Definitely Yankee ingenuity, he was born and raised on a farm south of the S.F. Bay area in the 1870-80's.  Given his and my great grandmothers income level, I would guess that the stuff he made either didn't exist at the time, or wasn't available.  Given how everything was rationed during WWII, he could have put the press together then.
