Mojave tribute truck - 3.4L twin turbo - 5VZTTFE
« on: Dec 09, 2014, 06:59:20 PM »
so I picked up a truck this fall , past customer whom had purchased a fiberglass bed from us about 10 years ago .
Older fella just used his truck for gardening and yard work ran the engine out of oil  . paint is a "body shop" total Fk up as you can see   ...

truck is in GREAT shape  , but does need a little frame work on the passenger side :(  ....  and of course , the PERFECT color match needs to be addressed

~ 240k kilometres on the clock .

so with the crap brown color , I had to think hard on what to do to this truck to make it have some eye candy  ...
and this is when the tribute came to mind ...

The original Mojave was a brass # plated , 1983 truck from Japan . Canada had 2WD and 4WD models while the USA only had 2WD models  ...

I'm going to build this one  -----    like that  ..     sort of   :)

Clean truck.  The frame is bad by the tank isn't it?  That is a common place.

it is that side , but surprising to me , it is not the inside plate of the rail , but the lower frame , right where the front spring mount is .
drivers side still has factory paint and is almost perfect  .. I have not seen this before

started the tear down this morning .. pulled the truck in my shop and got to work .

canopy was the first thing to go

and then removed the bed
I was actually excited to see the out come of this , as I have only done this once before on one of my old beds . as I mentioned earlier , this bed was installed at my shop ~ 10 / 11 years ago , so I was anxious to see what it actually looked like after so many years . my personal DD has had it's bed on it's truck now for 15 years , but someone else's truck is always good "gauge" as well .

so heres what we got

other then the inner paint , and under side paint , everything is GREAT , I'm super happy with what I have to work with , and It should last at least another 15 years ... easily !!

anyway  .....

also , got the tranny out

and the fenders off

CAB OFF :)

and now I can get to work on the frame

also .. "blasted" the bellhousing and painted ... I just needed to see some color . I think the gold is going to go well with the accent in the original tribal decals that are going on the outside .. this is also going to be the engine block color

Joel has been a huge help on this .. and to keep up with him today we had to mount the tranny and engine to get the positioning for the new mounts .
I used some round tube I had , worked out great ...

ok , so now we're done with the fitting of the engine .. time to make it perdy :)

first I started with removing the pan .. for those whom don't know , the original oil pan and pick up on the 5Vzfe wont fit this application . so as you saw in the previous pictures , I already powder coated the pan I need ..
With the pan off , I can now drill the new dipstick location .. and install the new holder
installed with a little red LOCKTITE just for "piece of mind"

also removed the "front end" to replace with all new parts
new oil pump , water pump , timing belt , bearings   ect .......

paint is an engine "heat" paint .. don't have the name brand off hand
meticulous cleaning , and first primed (engine temp primer)
