14th Annual Round-Up talk
« on: Oct 09, 2014, 08:09:25 PM »
Update: Registration is open, click here now: http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=98535 :camping:

Helllllllllllllllo Round-Up goers!

We'd like to kick-off discussion for next year's event, but before we do I'd like to clarify some things surrounding MCR13 and the future of the Marlin Crawler Round-Up.

  • The date.
As you know we altered our date to be 3-weeks earlier than normal. This was done to encourage more family participation by hosting the event before the school year got underway. We originally wanted to be 4-weeks earlier, but this would have interfered with CAL4WD's annual Sierra Trek event. So we decided to experiment with the date after Sierra Trek but before the Cantina for the Con. Needless to say this was a very busy time of the year. We received feedback that for some the initial week of school is often quite busy from classes, schedules, and after school programs. Therefore, we have decided that an earlier Round-Up date is not ideal and we will resume the normal Round-Up date of the weekend closest to Marlin's Sept 16th birthday, which for next year happens to be Sept 18-20!

--> It's already official: Next year's Round-Up Event will be held Sept 18-20!

  • The location.
For the past few years we have been trying to work with our local High Sierra Ranger District to relocate the Round-Up to the beautiful mountains above Fresno. We've wheeled trails in states from Tennessee to Hawaii and believe our local trails are of the most beautiful we've seen, with stand-out Dusy/Ershim winning BF Goodrich's National Outstanding Trail Program. It's no coincidence that the second oldest 4WD club in the World happens to be right here in Fresno, California. Last fall we finally got the paperwork in order and submitted it to our forest department, expecting to get a "go, no-go" by April.

But April came and went and we still didn't have confirmation from our forest department. We had a fall-back plan, to resume the event at the Rubicon Springs, but we were really pushing to support our local forest service. The push was strengthened with the drought California is experiencing as many businesses up at our lake resorts were (and still are) being threatened of shutting down due to a lack of business/tourism. By the end of June we got the green light but there simply wasn't enough time to market such a drastic change to the event.

Long story not any longer, we initiated our back-up plan and held MCR13 at the Springs. Because it is on private land, amongst many other reasons, it's just too great of a venue to pass-up. We are still planning on drumming up support for our local forest service in 2015, but as for the Round-Up it will be held at the Rubicon Springs!

--> Next year's Round-Up Event will be at the Rubicon Springs Campground!

  • Registration.
Because of the above, MCR13 registration only ran from July 1-31. This is the shortest registration ever yet we still enjoyed the company of almost 200 participants! :o We know many missed our event because of the date change and/or short notice and we won't let this happen again!

--> Registration will open earlier than ever before!

And finally,

  • The Raffle.
First and foremost we want to give a HUGE THANK YOU to all who supported the raffle this year: all proceeds totaled $9,422 and were handed over to the RTF! Because of the late confirmation of the event, the raffle was limited due to many supporters having already donated to other events. The big news for MCR14 is that we have already prepared donation request letters and are implementing an online Registration/Raffle Ticket pre-order system!

--> MCR14 will probably be the largest & most successful raffle ever!

Needless to say, you'd better be at MCR14. :_order: Spread the word and put in your vacation requests; It's probably going to be the BEST ROUND-UP EVER!

Regards,
BigMike

We're going. We've never been on the Rubicon,  but we're teaming up with a buddy of mine who is from the area. I've always wanted to wheel the Rubicon and I've wanted to meet you guys, shake Marlin's hand and personally tell him thank you for everything he has done for the sport. Now, I'll get the chance.

So me and my dad will be making our first venture to the Rubicon this year. I have a couple questions...............we want to go in Friday morning at the butt crack of dawn. I plan on camping Thursday night prior to making the venture to the springs. I see that most people go in thru loon lake. Where is a good place to camp Thursday night if I want to start at loon lake? How many people on here are planning to enter Friday morning? How long does it take to get to the springs from loon lake? I would like to travel with a few more experienced Rubicon patrons if possible. Our rigs are very capable and we have been wheeling for a long time.......just want to make the best of the trip and want my dad to have a good time. Well if anyone can shed some light for me I would appreciate it  :beerchug:
Thanks
90'4runner......lots of goodies.

Hey guys, just a quick reminder.  If you happen to get stuck or break anywhere on the trail, please try to move your rig over far enough to let people by safetly if possible.  If it's not possible, then it is what it is, and lets give eachother a hand get things fixed and keep everyone moving. Just remember common courtesy.  If you were stuck or in a bind, you would want some to help you out too.  Also, if you see someone struggleing on a section, don't sit in your rig and and rev your motor up, trying to hurry them along.  Rather, get out and help spot them, or throw a strap onto them and help out before they break something, or worse, roll over.

Just wanted to throw that out there.  I know I don't like bing stuck in a traffic jam if it can be avoided.  and if all it takes is a little help from one another, why not.
