1haoleboys 22r and w56 swap
« on: Jun 21, 2014, 05:38:47 PM »
Upgrading the ol 83's tranny and throwing in a brand new 22r.  Just started this morning ripped out the ol eng and tran.  As far as I can tell it's the original motor.  Timing chain rattles and leaking oil and burning it too.  Time for a change.  And a w56 while I'm at it.  Getting rid of the l52 and this thread I guess it to track the swap of the tranny.  Got a sky's cross member, marlin hd for the tcase and a stock for the duals.  Got a new header going on along with a rebuilt 22r with a engbldr crawler cam.  Upgrading all hosing to silicone.  New clutch.  And a pretty painted engine bay.  Stay tuned for more pics and problems! :rivers:

I found the block machined and all internals for 250 from a guy in toll house.  Bought the head used but it was just rebuilt with paperwork for 200 and came with lots of extras.  Then I bought everything else I needed ie gaskets head bolts hoses bearings clutch headers ect.  In all about 1500. It's all the little things that get u.  U will find just about everything u thought was good needs replacement.

Well got the motor and started on tonight.  Going smooth.  Hoping to have the tranny bolted up tommorow and hopefully drop it in.

Alright I've got a question. Because a W56 is 4" longer than a L-series, do the shifters move back also or just the crossmember? If the shifter moves back 4" and your running dual cases it seems like the shifters would be so far back and make it uncomfortable to work the dual cases.

Got a lot done today.  Mated the tranny and finished the motor.  Dropped her in tonight.  It's been a awsome learning experience.  Doing the knuckle rebuild tommorow then hopefully a first start tommorow night!  Stay tuned for awesomeness!  Also painted the engine bay
