Froggy mobile.
« on: Feb 07, 2014, 10:40:20 AM »
Started out with a 1980 sr5 lwb 20r good tread on 31.  $1000   Even has pwr steering and had ac (compressor is gone but brackets still there)   Ran good enough to drive hm   its rough on the outside ,can't see anything but surface rust on the frame.

Things I've found needed some attention:
Brakes are scary as hell. ( Tried to bleed em still didn't help)
Clutch slips and doesn't have much peddle (tried to adj it just made the slipping worse)
exhaust leak at the manifold
Dash lights don't work (jumpered the dimmer switch n they work )
tach won't work (the wire from the factory plug to the - side of coil was gone made one and it works yay)
Missing odds an end interior pieces ( vents)
Battery terminals wiring nightmare (cleaned and replaced got rid of a bunch of extra add ons).    Starts so much better now yay
Heater vents full of leaves
Has good tread on the tires just old.  Don't hold air very well.
Axle seals have been leaking for a while(tried to steam clean some of it off)
Found some holes in the cab
UJoints clanking like crazy
Air cleaner is literally held on with bailing wire lol

I thinking after I get it MRE road worthy
its gonna be a dd/mild wheeler
Fix brakes ( thinking of the Tacoma brakes  from front range)
Ruf with either Chevy or f-150 springs
Hysteer
Body work
Bob the bed down a bit
Probably run 33 I want 37 for some reason been thinking of the hummer wheels with new centers

Now if this dang cold weather would ease up brrrr

Well little bit of progress
Ole dd (03) trailblazer been giving fits here lately so free time has been trying to make her run better.
Went out to work on something on froggy n two flat tires not the idea I had in mind but oh well.
Went to start n ran really rough.  Then went idling awful  s
melling fuel , shut it off n popped hood 'didn't see anything pulled off the bailing wire that held air cleaner on n carb was wet.   "Gas".  I'm like lovely.   Turn the key to on for fuel pump to kick on sure enough spew in out the top n out the return line.   And on the ground.   Well try my hand at rebuilding carb or go weber ?     Rebuild definitely cheaper.

Got the Weber on it ran around town all morning went to drive it to work an bam no more clutch.    Pulled it to the garage.   Sons house lol.      Lots of bleeding knuckles an broke bolts its on the ground.   Always thought it had the l43 looks like l45 had been swapped in.   Pita dropping tranny single handed yuck.   And it was really hot.  Arkansas hot.      Throw out bearing was FUBAR.   Slave cylinder was broke clutch fork an throw out bearing were welded together from the heat.   Will post pictures shortly

More pics after i got it out from under truck an pulled pressure plate off.
I'm not crazy about lamination cracks on my flywheel.    This something i should be concerned with?   Replace?
Look how bad the throw out bearing had been eating into the find on the pressure plate

Also backside of the throw out bearing where forks dug into it

I'm not seeing the problem? :-p heh. Looks like you got a great deal! I love the first gens, but they are just a little to small for me. Lucky you made it home with the clutch together. Enjoy!
If you see it, its for sale.
