2013 Tin Bender's Jamboree Pics

2013 Tin Bender's Jamboree
We sent Christine, Marlin, and BigMike to this year's Tin Bender's Jamboree! This event is usually held in April but due to BLM issues it was rescheduled to October. Weather was excellent. A little chilly at night but very nice in the low 80s / high 70s during the day. There was a good turnout this year however it seemed that people spread out more to camp in remote groups in the dry lake bed (ie. there was less of a "main camp" it seemed). We led a group of 12 really good drivers through Lower & Upper Big Johnson, Boulder Dash, and Claw Hammer and had a GREAT TIME! Thanks Tin Benders for another EXCELLENT EVENT!

We were pleased to see such a great
turnout even considering how the event
was rescheduled due to the Bureau of

After the main driver's meeting everyone
got together with their individual run
leaders and then set off into the
desert!

There were a few classic airplanes
flying overhead. It was really cool!

Here we are heading out!

At the top of Lower Big Johnson you can
either ditch out to the right or turn
left and head up Upper Big Johnson,
which is where we headed next

Multiple play areas abound!

Looking back at the valley floor. We are
between 3,000 to 3,200 feet.

Up, up, up!

Up, up, up!

Up, up, up!

Near the very top of the canyon

Near the very top of the canyon

Near the very top of the canyon

Done!

Heading over to Boulder Dash

Dropping into Boulder Dash. A lot
happens on this trail in not a lot of
distance. The elevation change is pretty
large.

Here is our tail-gunner BigMike

As mentioned, there is a lot of
elevation change, enough to swallow an
entire truck right in front of you.

And we reached the bottom!

And we reached the bottom!

And we reached the bottom!

Everything went so smoothly in our
group, no one got stuck anywhere, no one
broke down, and everyone knew how to
wheel their rig. It was a great group of
guys! We took a short stop for lunch and
then decided to head up Claw Hammer.

It's difficult to tell from this photo
but the trail makes four 90-degree
corners here. It doesn't look like much
but it's a lot of wheeling. That is one
aspect of the Hammers: Deceptively easy!

All of our trails have a very strict maximum wheelbase requirement so I'm sorry but you'll have to sell your XtraCabEnormous. :tease:
